The Proper Way to Wash Your Hair

By Jennifer Summers

You may or may not know this, but there is a 'right' way to wash your hair. If you have not been washing your hair properly, when you do, you should notice a big difference in the shine, bounce, health and cleanliness of your hair. But like many others, it is likely that you were never shown how to wash your hair properly and as a result you do not have the great looking hair that you really want.

Step 1. - To start. Start off by getting your hair brush and use it to brush your hair well before you even start to wash it. Brushing your hair will loosen dirt, prevent hair breakage and keep the number of hairs in the drain to a minimum. After you have brushed, it's time to get your hair really good and wet. It is hard to wash hair that has not been thoroughly moistened so make sure that you give your hair a good soaking.

Step 2. - Applying shampoo. A common mistake that many people make when washing their hair is the amount of shampoo they use. Often people will just add a big dollop to the palm of their hand and then start rubbing it in. This is not the way to do it. If you are using the very highest quality hair care products (which is always recommended) you only need use a small amount as professional hair products are usually more concentrated.

Step 3. - The proper way to wash your hair. There two biggest errors people usually make in washing their hair are: 1). Scrubbing/massaging too hard 2). Rinsing off shampoo too quickly. After adding the shampoo, the best way to wash your hair is too rub or massage your scalp and hair gently. Vigorous scrubbing can be bad for you scalp and does clean hair any better. When you have finished lightly massaging your hair for a short period, the shampoo can be left in for up to 5 minutes for a thorough clean.

Step 4. - Rinse and Repeat. When you have finished shampooing your hair, you have to rinse away all of that lather, dirt and grime. Rinsing your hair is an important part of washing your hair properly. You need to rinse your hair thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly) as shampoo can still be hidden in hair that appears to be rinsed. After you have rinsed your hair thoroughly you can wash your hair again if you want to make sure that you get a proper clean.

You can make a big difference to the look and the feel of your hair when you begin washing it properly. It's easy to do, just go through the 4 steps outlined above and you will have clean and healthy looking in no time, every time. And if you use top quality hair products that salon a professional uses, you will really begin to notice the difference and be pleased with how healthy and clean looking your hair can become. - 16759
